About Parity Lab:

According to the UN, one in three women faces violence from men in her lifetime; between 30-60% women face violence from an intimate partner. While civil society (both non-profits and social enterprises) around the world have been working to change gender attitudes on ground, co-ordinated support for such organizations is not available to amplify impact at scale.

Parity Lab is the first-ever accelerator for community-led organizations that address violence against women and girls. We identify women-leaders from marginalized communities with both an extensive track record and vision for fostering change to either prevent or respond to gender-based violence. ParityLab is an embedded support system that provides capacity building, coaching, and thought partnership, for 18 months

The Project:

The Operations Associate will be the first point of contact of support for our cohort of community-led organizations from rural India. This position reports to the Founder & CEO of Parity Lab and will work closely with the board and the leadership team.

Responsibilities:

Operations Management:

  • Co-design the curriculum and training plan for the incubation program along with each of the incubated partner organizations

  • Develop workshops and support leadership team in implementing operations plan for 2023

  • Listen, observe and deeply understand the operations, challenges, strengths and needs of the incubated organizations. Develop an understanding of how Parity Lab can best support each organization during its incubation

  • Develop a short and long-term plan for each incubated organization

  • Conduct regular check-ins and be the first point of support with the cohort of organizations

  • Lead regular workshops and team building activities for the cohort of founders and their core teams

  • Support development of an internal and external impact assessment model for Parity Lab

Partnership & community building:

  • Supports partnership conversations with other national organizations to help support relevant operations for our partner organizations

  • Spearheads community building initiatives for the cohort of incubated organizations

Other related tasks:

  • Regularly meet with and support volunteer-led initiatives at Parity Lab

  • Supports grants-writing and data compilation activities at Parity Lab

  • Other duties, as needed, and in-line with the role

Qualifications:

  1. 2+ years of field operations experience in the social sector

  2. Language requirements: Fluent written and spoken Hindi and English required

  3. Comfort working in virtual and on-site field environments

  4. Willingness to travel to field sites, mainly partner organization sites, situated in remote districts of India

  5. Entrepreneurial work style and enthusiastic about working with grassroot organizations

  6. Is independent and can take ownership in a startup environment

  7. Passionate about learning and growing in an ambitious high-growth organization

  8. Experience with gender equity initiatives preferred, particularly those related to addressing violence against women and girls. An understanding of intersectional gender inequities will be helpful.

  9. Keen attention to detail and organized work ethic highly desired

Travel: This position will require travel to various field locations for capacity building, listening and training workshops. ~30% of the manager’s time is expected to be in travel, particularly in locations based out of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. This position will require regular virtual meetings with our leadership team based out of the United States. Travel costs will be reimbursed.

Communications Internship

About Parity Lab:

Parity Lab is the first-ever incubator for organizations that address violence against women and girls. The first incubation cohort comprises three grassroots organizations from India led by women from marginalized communities. Each organization has a unique intervention to address gender inequities and eliminate violence against women and girls. The 2022 incubation program will provide support on three areas: data/evaluation support; business / organizational supports; and individual coaching/mentorship opportunities.

The expected start date is mid-June 2022 and will last for a period of 10 - 12 weeks. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Salary:

We are still an early-stage incubator, hence this internship is unpaid. We would be very happy to support with college credit paperwork, regular interaction with leadership and board members (all alumni of Ivy League schools and experienced in the gender space), opportunity to attend events and other in-kind support.

The Project:

The internship project leads front facing communications support for Parity Lab. This will be based off the 2022 communications strategy and goals for the organization.
The intern will be reporting directly to the founder & CEO of Parity Lab.

Responsibilities:

The intern will have the opportunity to deeply explore and understand the gender equity space globally, and in India, in particular. They will work closely with the Parity Lab leadership team. Their tasks will be:

  1. Understand Parity Lab’s communications strategy, values and theory of change

  2. Develop & implement engaging content for digital and print media

  3. Leverage opportunities to showcase Parity Lab's work

Qualifications:

The intern will be working on the project with a good degree of independence, with regular strategy/guidance support from the leadership at Parity Lab. We expect the candidate to fulfill the following requirements:

  1. An understanding of the nuances of working on gender issues, particularly gender-based violence

  2. Is creative, understands online engagement & can work independently, with attention to detail

  3. Good communication skills, both written and spoken

  4. Knowledge of Hindi is an added advantage, but not required

Research & Strategy Internship

Each organization has a unique intervention to address gender inequities and eliminate violence against women and girls. The 2022 incubation program will provide support on three areas: data/evaluation support; business / organizational supports; and individual coaching/mentorship opportunities.

Location:

The internship will be largely virtual, with occasional trips to New York and/or New Jersey for in-person meetings if the intern is based in the US. The intern may be able to conduct field visits to Parity Lab’s incubated organizations in India, if they desire to do so.

Term:

The expected start date is negotiable between March and June 2022 and will last for a period of 8 - 12 weeks. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Salary:

We are still an early-stage incubator, hence this internship is unpaid. We would be very happy to support with:

  • Co-authorship of the report that will be published as a white paper

  • Opportunity to present the landscape report at a Parity Lab event

  • Regular interaction with leadership and board members of Parity Lab

The Project:

The project has two components:

  1. A global landscape analysis report that explores:

    • Various models of intervention in the gender-based violence and gender equity space

    • Innovative financing models that exist and may be leveraged for eliminating gender-based violence

  2. Strategy for Parity Lab’s organizational growth and impact, including financing model, sustainability, and longterm considerations to eliminate violence against women.


The intern will be reporting directly to the founder & CEO of Parity Lab.

Responsibilities:

The intern will have the opportunity to deeply explore and understand the gender equity space globally, and in India, in particular. They will work closely with the Parity Lab leadership team. Their tasks will be:

  1. Understanding Parity Lab’s values and theory of change

  2. Secondary research of various players and interventions globally

  3. Interviews with various experts in the space, including funders, research experts, impact investors and on-ground organizations

  4. Field visit to local organizations addressing violence against women and girls

  5. Writing a final report and a white paper summarizing the findings on landscape analysis for a policy audience

  6. A final presentation to the Parity Lab board and a larger policy audience

  7. Developing a short and long-term strategy recommendation for Parity Lab that will be circulated internally within the office.

Qualifications:

The intern will be working on the project with a good degree of independence, with regular strategy/guidance support from the leadership at Parity Lab. We expect the candidate to fulfill the following requirements:

  1. An understanding of the nuances of working on gender issues, particularly gender-based violence

  2. Preferably enrolled in a graduate level public policy/public administration program

  3. Ability to problem solve and conduct root cause analysis

  4. Ability to work independently, with attention to detail

  5. Good communication skills, both written and spoken

  6. Knowledge of Hindi is an added advantage, but not required

  7. Experience working in strategy consulting is valuable, but not required
